Safe Zone

The SafeZone at the College of Charleston is proud to announce a vital initiative with the College of Charleston’s Public Safety Department.

The majority of officers have participated in an informational training by SafeZone team personnel David G. Michener & Thomas Holcomb; including an 11pm—3:00am training session. During the training sessions, two Public safety Officers: Madeline Sloan and Kia Rodgers, have graciously volunteered to serve as Public Safety-SafeZone Liaisons. These Liaisons will be working directly with SafeZone and the Gay-Straight Alliance student group at the College of Charleston to address the concerns of LGBTQ students.

The creation of an LGBTQ police liaison demonstrates Public Safety’s dedication to service and inclusion. The campus community can now see a SafeZone sticker in the window of Public Safety Headquarters (down below) on St. Phillip Street symbolizing this development.

The SafeZone Committee would like to thank Dir. Public Safety/Deputy Chief Robert Reese, & Officers Sloan & Rogers including all of the officers who attended training and the willingness to educate and effectively communicate amongst the LGBTQ campus community.
